Prez Says for May 2026
Welcome to May. the month of Cinco de mayo, Moher’s Day and the Memorial Day Holiday. Are you planning a special Mother’s Day celebration?
On May 5, we will have our Tech Corner and General meeting via Zoom.
Our General Meeting program will be "What OneDrive IS and IS NOT, " presented by John Santora.
OneDrive is a cloud storage service that synchronizes changes across multiple devices, making files accessible remotely and enabling collaboration for Microsoft Office applications. However, it is not a complete backup solution, as it does not back up operating systems, applications, or some system settings, and its collaboration features are limited to Microsoft Office apps. The presentation covers how to determine if OneDrive is already installed and active on Windows 10 and 11, noting that a Microsoft account is required. It also details the advantages, such as deep integration with Windows and Microsoft 365 apps, and the disadvantages, including the replacement of standard file organization methods and potential confusion when discontinuing its use. Santora discusses the free 5GB storage limit and various paid subscription options for increased storage and access to desktop applications, and contrasts OneDrive with alternatives such as Google Drive, iCloud, and Dropbox. He emphasizes that while OneDrive offers synchronization, it is not a true backup utility because it only synchronizes user data and not system settings or applications. The presentation concludes with recommendations and answers to audience questions regarding file organization, storage limits, and unlinking the service.
