Volume 26, Issue 8

Welcome to August, warmer weather, and the Blue Angels!  Thanks to the efforts of members of the Board, we are finally able to meet in person at the North Bellevue Community Center on Tuesdays in Room D.    Our meetings at the Center will be Hybrid (in-person meeting and Zoom meeting combined).

On August 2nd, our General Meeting program will be "Is the Future of Money Digital Currency?" presented by Chris and Jim Guld.  Is it the emerging technology of the decade? What are Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin?  Why is Blockchain important?  All this and more will be covered in Chris’s presentation with Jim handling the technology.  Please plan to join us in person or via Zoom.

Our Tech Corner Special Interest Group meets at 6:00 PM before the 7:00 PM General Meeting.  Topics covered this month will be Ashampoo’s Burning Studio, the issues of 5G roll-out vs. aircraft radio altimeters, TikTok being banned, and the availability of T-Mobile 5G Internet access.

Our new member, Steve Herber, is leading the Linux SIG on the second Tuesday of each month.  Steve is an information systems professional at the University of Washington and a long-time expert in LINUX and UNIX.  He is also the leader of BELUG (Bellevue Linux Group) which joins our Linux SIG meeting and brings both a high level of Linux expertise and a welcoming environment for Linux newbies.  Please try to attend and find a use for your old computers.

Have your photography friends visit the Digital Imaging Special Interest Group on the fourth Tuesday, August 23rd.  This group is a member of the Northwest Council of Camera Clubs.  August’s theme is Things That Fly (planes, birds, insects, drones, whatever you can imagine).

We always need more members, so please let others know about the informative hybrid meetings we have monthly and all of the free help we offer.  Please check the KEGS Calendar for dates and times of meetings.  We welcome visitors!

To keep up with technology visit https://www.techforsenior.com to learn about their Monday morning meetings (9:00 AM PT), their Newsletter, and their Facebook page.

Plan to attend an APCUG Wednesday Workshop or Saturday Safari via Zoom.  Because KEGS is a member of APCUG, all KEGS members are able to attend free and are notified via email about these events.

For our Auction, please donate only hardware and software that works on Windows 10 or 11. You are welcome to donate older working computers which can be converted to LINUX or a Chrome operating system.

It’s great to be meeting in person again.
