* For those who wish to beat the traffic...early arrivals, we have "Extracurricular Activities" near at hand...
Friday from 2 - 4:30
Early arrivals have several choices of local activities, which they may participate in. The first two have an entry
charge, the last one is just for us and is free; but in order to plan better we need your input. If you choose, you
may go to either museum (1 & 2) then join us for the tour (3) or mix and match activities as your schedule allows but
the tour (3) is only from 3-4:30 PM.
1. The newly opened Museum of Glass is open on that day. Admission is: $8 per person.
Their hours are: 10 AM - 5 PM
2. The Washington State Historical Museum is open also. Admission is: $7 per person.
Their hours are: 10 AM - 5 PM
On Exhibit while the conference is in town:
a. September 7, 2002 through February 3, 2003: Detectives on Everest - This exhibit presents the intriguing story of a
search for clues to the fate of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, climbers who vanished in 1924 on their quest to reach
the top of the world.
b. June 7 through October 27, 2002: Blankets Wrapped in Tradition: The Chihuly Collection of American Indian Trade Blankets
- In celebration of Native American arts and a tradition centuries old, "Wrapped in Tradition" will showcase a special
exhibition of over 75 American Indian trade blankets from the collection of Dale Chihuly, internationally acclaimed artist
and native of Tacoma. The exhibit will also feature 15 glass sculptures from Chihuly's "Navajo Blanket Cylinders" series,
the artist's celebrated blown-glass pieces that reflect the rich design and colors of the trade blankets.
3. A special tour of the University of Washington-Tacoma campus with emphasis on the technology section (3 - 4:30 PM).
Tour: Meet at 3 PM at the UWT Book Store; if you need a ride let registration know when you check in. Our custom guided tour will include a visit to the current computer lab
and a tour of the new technology center scheduled to open in November of this year, as well as the "reclaimed" campus buildings.
This tour is just for Raincoast attendees and their immediate family. If you wish to attend please indicate so on this survey.
Please indicate the number attending.
All activities are within 2 miles of the hotel. The three activities are grouped together within two blocks in the downtown
area. You may drive to one destination and walk to the others; or if there is enough interest we will provide a shuttle, as a
courtesy. The schedule will be posted at the check-in area as well as in you packet. Please be sure to check your packet for
updates and last minute additions or changes. And enjoy your whole weekend!
